Last weekend Hub surprised me with a beautiful Valentine bouquet. The roses didn't last long enough for me to see them again this weekend, so he bought more and added Calla Lilies, my fave. What a man! I can't remember a Valentine's Day since we started dating that he didn't buy a bouquet for me. But two? I must be something special to deserve such spoiling.
On Saturday, we went to breakfast at a local restaurant in old downtown, called Sister's. We'd had dinner here once, but never breakfast. (It might have been brunch because we might have slept late, but this is unimportant information.) The consensus? Breakfast at Sister's was better than dinner. Then again, we are "breakfast all the time" people so our opinions may be biased. It's a good thing Sister's serves breakfast all day. Is there really anything better?
We are truly enjoying the new city and all the exploring we get to do. Even though the locals know all the cool places and history, we like to think we are discovering things. The downtown area is especially cool since much of it is still original -- old doorways, stained glass windows, bright colors. I can't wait to get a new DSLR camera and go crazy with photography of this place. My Kodak Easyshare pictures aren't the greatest, but they'll have to do for now.
I adore this building. The architecture and colors are amazing. The stained glass window is beautiful. I'd like to live behind one of those windows and wave my arm at the townspeople, like a queen. "Oh, hello, common-folk down there. Feel free to admire my tower. I know you wish you had one too."
Yes, I'm pretty sure it was built just for me.
I don't know if these dates (1886-1905) are for the building or the business, but wow!
We also found this neat three-story building for sale -- upstairs, main floor, and a basement. With all the display windows and wood frames and ceilings and old tile flooring, I can envision a one-of-a-kind music store.
Erin's {Vintage} Music. Tada!
Now, who wants to sponsor my business?
*wink*
Later we went shopping and, naturally, ended up in the hunting section of the sports store. Where else would we be? I've come to accept that, no matter where we are, Hub automatically drifts in the general direction of such sporty things and... I guess I felt the need to document my research?
Then I prayed about it when we attended Saturday night mass. Isn't this a beautiful church? I'm beginning to like Saturday night mass more than Sunday morning, no matter where we go. I don't know if this makes me lazy or if I'm simply more awake in the evenings, but hopefully God doesn't mind either way.
On Sunday, Hub went rabbit hunting with friends while I slept late, then washed dishes, washed laundry, took care of the dog, made breakfast for myself, and enjoyed a peaceful morning. When Hub came home, he informed me that we should have lunch with his Grandma, which was lovely -- we always enjoy visiting with her -- and, afterwards, we went hunting for the last day of bow season. I hadn't planned on hunting this weekend, but... Did I really have the option to decline? My crossbow thinks not.

We didn't see anything with head gear, but we counted eight deer at dusk. It was a beautiful day to be outdoors. Although sitting on a wet tree stand -- I did not realize it was wet -- and feeling a little frigid all evening was less than desirable, it made a good excuse to snuggle on the couch later.
If only weekends could last longer...

Love your writing, Erin. Always puts a smile on my face. - Beth
ReplyDeleteTwo bouquets??!! That's SWEET!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm all about breakfast, I make it for dinner about once a week. They aren't really into breakfast in France and that drives me nuts, because a croissant or pan au chocolat doesn't really do it for me. I need bacon, and eggs, and sausage, and homefries!
awww, your hubs IS nice! : ) breakfast is awesome for any meal, i totally agree! if they would do a breakfast/brunch bar in the cafeteria at work, i would be SO HAPPY! idk if other ppl would like it, but i know i would. LOL
ReplyDeletei squee'd a little, i'll admit, when i saw the bank turrets. that building is amazing, and i thank you for sharing! : )
oh, and also, saturday mass is a good thing.
